Mechnikov Research Institute for Vaccines and Sera is a leading scientific organization in the field of medical microbiology, virology, immunology, biotechnology and the development of new generation immune-and-biological products for vaccination, immunotherapy and diagnosis of infectious diseases.

The Institute is one of the oldest scientific institutions in Russia, established in 1919 as the I. Mechnikov Moscow Municipal Bacteriological Institute. (Founder's Resolution for Establishment)

The Institute makes basic and applied researches in cellular and molecular mechanisms of innate and adaptive immunity against bacterial and viral infections, genetic and molecular biology of viruses, prevention programs development, diagnosis and treatment of various infectious diseases, and epidemiological investigations of viral infections. The Institute deals with the development of nanotechnologies and the use of nanomaterials in the production of new immunobiological drugs.
